The New Iphone 12: Optimal Combination Of Performance And Elegance

The new iPhone 12 is finally here - with a new chipset, fresh design, upgraded camera and fast 5G cellular network. The first experience reports for it are already out. The data from our detailed test report reveals whether the long wait was really worth it.

Proven design in numerous colors

When designing the iPhone 12, Apple is based heavily on the angular look of the iPhone 4 and 5, which the iPad Air and iPad Pro also have in the new model version. In terms of optics, the iPhone 12 draws the same level as the Pro version, but relies on significantly more color options, which is ultimately a

matter of taste. The differences to the iPhone 11 are very clear. Although the screen diagonal is still 6.1 inches, the smartphone is 16 percent lighter and 11 percent thinner. The direct comparison of latitude and longitude is also particularly interesting. The new iPhone is 4 mm smaller in each direction than its predecessor, with the screen now covering 85 percent of the front surface.

Brilliant OLED display

In addition to the Pro model, the normal iPhone 12 now also has an OLED display. The Super Retina XDR display impresses with strong contrasts and bright colors. This makes the display a big leap compared to the previous year's model and also stands out from the flagships of other manufacturers such as Samsung or Huawei. The better contrast and color values are already apparent when you look at it for the first time. However, the improved display also comes at a price. In Germany, the iPhone 12 starts at 876 euros for the 64 gigabyte version. If that is too expensive for you, you can also buy the new iPhone as part of a mobile phone contract. 1 & 1 is a good place to go for this. In addition, Apple uses the in-house True Tone functionality, with which the display content is automatically adapted to the ambient light. There are no major differences in display quality between the Pro and Standard models.

Powerful hardware

The heart of the iPhone 12 is the new A14 bionic processor, so that the iPhone 12 is on par with the Pro model in this area. Apple has also improved the Neural Engine and graphics performance, including: are used very intensively in image processing. In the test procedure, the new processor was so fast that it surpasses all the best values of other smartphones. The smartphone achieved an impressive 1,588 points in the Geekbench 5 test. Although the performance has been significantly improved compared to its predecessor, Apple specifies the same battery life as the iPhone 11. This is primarily thanks to the new chip manufacturing process, which significantly increased the power efficiency of the processor.

iPhone 12 with 5G technology

The new iPhone 12 brings the long-awaited support for the 5G cellular standard, which promises significantly faster transfer rates both for downloading and uploading. The smartphone offers support for all 5G frequency bands used in Germany. It has long been known that the new cellular standard increases the demands on the battery. In order to keep the battery consumption within limits, Apple has provided the new iPhone with a clever functionality: If the user does not need high transfer rates, the smartphone automatically switches back to LTE. Of course, 5G can also be activated permanently if desired.
