Xiaomi introduces the first transparent TV

The Chinese company Xiaomi recently presented the first transparent television called “Mi TV Lux”. This is by no means a pure concept model, but a sophisticated TV set that can already be pre-ordered.

Beijing (China). The Chinese technology group Xiaomi impressively shows that real innovations are still possible with technically mature devices such as televisions. The latest TV set with the name

Mi TV Lux is the first transparent television that uses the most modern OLED technology. The manufacturer's first pictures show a transparent screen (alpha channel), which is subtly framed.

According to the manufacturer's technical information, Xiaomi relies on a 55-inch OLED panel with an astonishingly high refresh rate of 120 Hertz for viewing the television. Thus, the transparent TV is also interesting for gamers. Xiaomi specifies the contrast ratio of the television as 150,000:

Design vs. practicability

In order to be able to implement the transparent television, Xiaomi has accommodated the technical components, which also include high-quality speakers, in the base. This makes it appear massive.

Since each individual diode in an OLED panel emits its own light, there is no need for backlighting on this new television. Since the light transmission of the television apparently cannot be regulated, the background of the television has an enormous influence on the picture quality.

Sale in China has already taken place

Xiaomi uses the in-house operating system MIUI for TV, which is based on Android, for the Mi TV Lux. The menu was adapted for the transparent television and appears to be transparent in some places.

The calculations are carried out by an ARM Cortex-A73 processor with four cores and a Mali-G52 GPU. The Mi TV Lux also has three 2.0 HDMI ports, which offer enough space for a game console, a modern receiver and a Blu Ray player.

Initially, Xiaomi only wants to sell the transparent Mi TV Lux TV in China. The first copies went over the counter on August 28th. The innovative television is priced at the equivalent of 6,100 euros. It is not yet known when and whether the television will also be offered in Europe.
