Samsung Electronics Smart Shoes

Samsung Electronics has applied for a patent for smart shoes for runners who want to improve their training performance. These smart shoes provide feedback to players in real time.

Samsung already has experience with smart clothing. At IFA 2015 Samsung C&T Fashion Division introduced a smart men suit with its own smart clothing brand The Human Fit. In addition early this

year when they introduced the Samsung Smart Suit which is called a smart training suit it was also used for training of Dutch short track athletes at the Winter Olympics.

So far Samsung has never released a smart shoe. However, two years ago at MWC 2016 they announced that they would launch Iofit smart shoes. IO-FIT which is connected to a smartphone, is a shoe designed for golfers. IOFIT shoes were developed by Salt Venture, a startup subsidiary of Samsung Creative Lab. The project was launched through the Kickstarter cloud funding website.

The newly acquired patent suggests that Samsung will soon introduce a smart shoe.

Samsung Smart Running Shoes

In August 2018, Samsung C&T applied for two design patents with the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO). This patent was filed on December 27 last year and several rendering images of running shoes with sensors attached to the heel axle were also disclosed.

Samsung's patented smart shoes are made of leather and synthetic materials. Model A can be turned on and off by pulling the tab on the heel of the shoe. Model B also has a smart sensor on the back, and smart functions are activated when the plastic lid on the heel is opened or closed.
